The Forest Service office for the San Isabel National Forest around Leadville: Turquoise Lake, Twin Lakes, Mount Elbert and Mount Massive. Open 8 am to 4:30 pm, closed on federal holidays.

The Leadville Ranger District of the Pike and San Isabel National Forests has its office at 810 Front Street. Its page gives the hours as 8 am to 4:30 pm, closed on federal holidays, and the phone as 719-486-0749. The district manages Turquoise Lake and Twin Lakes recreation areas, the campgrounds around them, the Mount Elbert and Mount Massive trails and the Holy Cross and Mount Massive wilderness areas; group permits for the fourteeners come from here. The office page itself was last updated March 26, 2025, but the Forest’s alerts page carried 2026 orders for the district, including an “Offices closed Oct. 12” notice.

Current closures are on the Forest’s alerts page (https://www.fs.usda.gov/r02/psicc/alerts). Address, phone and hours from the district office page, read 10 October 2026.
